Festival Outfit Guide 2026: What Actually Works
From fabric choice to footwear: the practical guide to an outfit that survives three days.
Fabric beats style
Cotton soaks up sweat and stays wet — after two hours on the floor a cotton shirt feels twice as heavy. Elastane blends and mesh wick moisture outward and dry between two sets. If you're out late, pack a thin shell jacket instead of a thick hoodie: same warmth, a third of the bulk.
The layering rule
Three thin layers beat one thick one. Top during the day, longsleeve over it at night, shell jacket for the afterhour. Anything you take off has to fit in your bum bag or tie around your waist — otherwise you're carrying it in your hand all day.
Shoes decide the day
No new shoes on day one. Broken-in sneakers with a solid sole, plus two pairs of socks to swap. On grass, boots are the safer call — at any open air, rain is a question of when, not if.
What you actually need on you
Phone, card, ID, keys, earplugs, sunscreen, water bottle. Nothing else fits in a bum bag and nothing else is needed. Earplugs with 18–21 dB attenuation preserve both the music and your hearing — the cheapest purchase with the biggest long-term payoff.
